Crosscutting a.k.a. Parallel Editing
This scene from 'The Godfather' shows us an example of parallel editing. The first event displays a Christian ceremony at which a baby is christened, which cross-cuts a series of murders shown in the second sequence. This implies that the both scenes are happening simultaneously or around the same period of time (because there are many scenes where people are murdered, it's unlikely that all of them would occur at exactly the same time.) The narrative effect on the crosscutting appose these two lines of action. The sequences present the two different sides of the mafia, the dark and mortal side that contrasts with the creation of 'family'. In the first scene we can clearly see the christening of the new born into the church, while on the other hand the criminals are doing the Godfather's dirty work.

Overlapping Editing
In Mission Impossible 2, Tom Cruise uses the mirror on his motorcycle to fires his pistol at the bad guy pursuing him. It shows the bullet strike that hits the bad guy’s windshield twice, repeating the moment of impact in two shots that are framed slightly differently. Noel Burch is using overlapping editing to create impact, a kinetic effect that the editors created to by repeating the same action by using different angles so that the audience

Eyeline Matchch
The Eyeline Match in The Stendhal Syndrome, shot A presents a subject looking at an object, and shot B shows the audience the object the subject was looking at in shot A. It's important to be noted that the shots are not in the same frame. This effect can give intensity to the scene, even though she's just looking at the picture, by zooming in and keeping changing the shots it makes it seems like the scene has its own importance and also keeps the audience focused on the action.

Match Cut
Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” collapses many millennia in the span of a mere second in what is perhaps the most popular example of a match cut in cinema history. Matching the form of the bone and that of the space station, Kubrick creates a sense of aesthetic and thematic unity between the two time periods. This shows us the transition between two different periods of time and how much the humanity improved over time.

Planning My Practice
1)Crosscutting (Parallel Cutting)
Character A and Character B will be running in the same time, to the same direction but on different routes trying to find each other. They will be running around the college. While filming this video I want to use many transitions and make it as smooth as possible. The background music should be intense, as they will be moving around almost the entire time until the end, but then the music would slow down a bit and won't be that load because they finally met.

2)Overlapping Editing
The character will be running in one direction, while he will be filmed from multiples angles at the same time. For the sound effects I will use police sirens and dog's barking to make the scene look intense. I plan to use a red filter to show the danger the character is put in.

3)Eyeline Match
Character A and Character B are are looking at a painting and a small detail will catch their attention making them even more focused on it. In the shot A the camera will zoom slowly on them, as they are captivated by the painting, while in shot B the painting will be showing while the camera will be more focusing on the small details the characters are attracted to, and then the camera will turn back to Character A and Character B.

4)Match Cut
In this video the camera will zoom on the Character A's right eye, and by using transition it would zoom out from Character B's eyes.I'm still not certain about the sound effect I want to use, so I'll have to look more into it later on. I think about using a blue filter to change the mood of the video, believing that the blue filter might add a bit of mystery to the sequence.

Crosscutting/ Parallel editing
Out of all of the techniques I had to put in practice, parallel editing was the one I enjoyed the most. While editing this video I had the chance to use a larger variety of angles that helped me to put everything in place and get a good result at the end of editing. While filming I also had the chance to direct a bit, which I also really enjoyed. The sound effect I used wasn't exactly fit for this kind of video, as it made it look like they were running away from something instead of running to meet each other, so next time I would look for something less intense that would fit better with the context of the video. Another thing I should do is to take my time with the colour correction because some of the scenes had a different lighting and I had to correct one scene at a time instead of the whole sequence. I would also try to take more shots for the ending scene so that I'd have plenty to pick from and to prevent it from ending in an awkward atmosphere.
Overlapping Editing
While filming this video I had to take in consideration the angles I could use so that when I edit the scenes would match the way I wanted. The way I filmed could also improve and the angles could've been better, but because I feel like I rushed the filming for this specific video the quality isn't that good either. The red filter I used is something I would keep because it represents the danger and the audio matches well with it as well, recreating the atmosphere I wanted to have. When I'll remake this video I will most probably use another location so that I can film from different angles and try to use multiple movements so that the production will get better.
Eyeline Match
I believe that this video could be filmed and edited in a much better manner. The main problems would the the way it was filmed and the elements used in it. At the beginning of the video the camera was shaking and the angles used are not the best, however you can understand the objective as in shot A the camera zooms slowly on the actors and then changes to shot B where the camera is zooming on a painting, and back on shot A where the actors are focusing even more on the painting. When I'll recreate this video I think about using a different painting, more interesting that would make the audience more focused in what's going on and curious about why the actors attention is on the painting. And I'll make sure to use a tripod so that the camera will be steady.
Match Cut
The first thing that comes into my mind when I think about improving this video is how I filmed the shots. The camera wasn't steady and because of that I couldn't focus well on their eyes, which ended up being blurry. I thought that next time when I'd film a similar scene a tripod would be really helpful so that the camera would be in place and not shaking like it did in this video. And maybe like this I could also focus better and get a better shot. While editing I wanted to use a colourful filter to change the mood of the video, trying to make it more mysterious, but I'm not sure if it actually worked out or not. The thing I liked the most was the audio, as I believe it fitted perfectly, but the result could've been better if the things mentioned above would be improved.
